StarChapter offers options for email that are important to consider both during the setup process and once a service is live with StarChapter.
Email Forwarders
StarChapter offers email forwarders, or aliases, as part of the service. This masks a personal or business email address with an email that reflects a domain name. Forwarders are set up within the StarChapter service.
This option is optimized to work with StarChapter's mass mailings. Since admin users are sending emails via StarChapter's hosting service, it is important to make sure the email address matches the domain.
Keep in mind that email forwarders are not meant to replace a dedicated email address.
This option works best for:
Chapters that may not have the bandwidth to manage a third-party email provider.
Organizations that do not need to archive past emails in one centralized place.
Organizations that are okay with using personal or business email accounts for daily communication. The forwarders can be used for daily email, but StarChapter does control the firewall and spam filtering settings.
Tip: If you do want to archive emails and use email forwarders, then setup a folder on your computer where you can add emails to an archive.
Third Party Email
The third party email option works best for organizations that need dedicated inboxes for board members. Popular third party email providers include G-Suite and Microsoft Office Solutions. Note, these are not endorsed over any other provider by StarChapter.
In order to setup third-party email, StarChapter will need MX Records to point your email services away from StarChapter's hosting. For any Microsoft clients, StarChapter will need CNAME and A Records.
This option works best for:
Organizations that would like to have all organizational emails archived in one place.
The head count to have one dedicated person understand the requirements of the email setup.
Tip: With this option, any forwarder or aliases would no longer be setup in StarChapter. Instead, any forwarders would be setup in the third party provider.
