    Optimize Email Delivery

More than 85 percent of the world’s email is spam, according to a June 2018 report from CISCO. That number is behind the reason spam filters continue to get better, faster, and stronger. Email marketing requires getting mail into the inboxes of recipients, so it is important to be aware of what triggers spam filters so they can be avoided. After sending mail, review email reports and address any issues. This will ensure that your communications are reaching recipients and keeping them engaged in your organization.

    Subject Line

    • Avoid using all CAPITAL LETTERS.
    • Avoid excessive punctuation. This is typically done with exclamation points, so limit yourself to just one punctuation mark per sentence.
    • Avoid spelling mistakes.
    • Avoid words such as "free" or "guaranteed" that are typically linked to spam.
    • Do keep it short.
    • Do be clear and don't try to trick recipients into opening mail. This may not trigger a spam filter, but it will cause a negative reaction from recipients that could lead to them unsubscribing.

    Email Body

    • Avoid words such as "free" or "guaranteed" that are typically linked to spam.
    • Avoid using extra characters within words. Spam filters have caught onto the trick of adding characters to get around typical spam flags, so "f*ree" will trigger the same spam flags as "free."
    • Avoid using all capital letters.
    • Avoid excessive punctuation.
    • Do review text to ensure that there are no spelling mistakes in your text.
    • Do balance text and images. A large number of images will increase the likelihood that your message will be flagged as spam.
    • Do personalize the message, when appropriate.

    Attachments

    • Avoid using attachments. Instead, upload documents to Content > Media Manager > Documents and include the document link in your email.

Even when you do everything right, some mail will end up being stuck in spam filters. That could be due to a new security update at your member's company, one too many images, or some industry-specific terms that tend to trigger spam filters. This is when reviewing email reports will benefit your organization. Those issues can be caught early and addressed. Ask members to add your organization to their allow list. If that doesn't resolve the issue, please submit a support ticket including the email address that is rejecting your mail. Our Support Team will assist you will troubleshooting.
