    StarChapter Application Programming Interface (API) Overview

    The Application Programming Interface (API) is built to allow you to create integration with the StarChapter system and another system. Building integrations on top of the APIs allows you to extend the StarChapter system for seamless sharing of data between your application and the StarChapter platform.

    Typical uses of the StarChapter APIs

    Member and Non-Member Record Syncing and Sharing

    Allows for two-way, real-time syncing of data between the parent organization's AMS application and the local chapters that use StarChapter. This connection saves everyone valuable time and ensures data accuracy. These APIs require initial development by the parent organization to work with their AMS application. Once the API integration is set up, use of the connection is included in each chapter's subscription and each chapter can opt in to participate.

    Extending StarChapter

    Allows for tight integrate to another application, chapters/associations can build mobile apps or other web apps that leverage the data. Parent associations can pull and provide real time member and prospect stats by chapter.

    Type of API

    StarChapter’s APIs are RESTful. Many standard HTTP features, like HTTP verbs, are used which can be understood by many HTTP clients. JSON will be returned in all responses from the API, including errors. The APIs are designed to have predictable, straightforward URLs and to use HTTP response codes to indicate API errors.

    Authentication

    The StarChapter APIs allow for OAuth authentication. More detailed information is provided in our full API guideline documentation.
