Member Expiry Settings control what happens to members within StarChapter when their membership expires. There are various options depending upon the needs of your organization.
Tip: Expired members move automatically to the Non-Member Manager and to Membership > Group Manager > Non-Member Categories in a subgroup 'Former Members.'
Go to Membership > Settings and verify that you are on the Members tab. Find the Member Expiry Settings box.
Recommended Expiry Settings
If you are importing member rosters from a parent organization
Set the Upon Expiration drop-down menu to Do Nothing.
Click Save.
All member updates, including moving expired members to the Non-Member Manager, are completed during member imports. No additional settings are necessary when this process is used.
If you are managing membership locally
Set the Upon Expiration drop-down menu to Allow Grace Period.
Set the Grace Period Timeframe drop-down menu to the appriopriate range.
Tip: 30-90 days is the most common range for grace periods.
Set the Expired Member Login Permissions drop-down menu to Login to Dues Payment Screen Only. The advantage of allowing a grace period is to permit expired members to easily renew their membership, so this setup provides that option without granting additional member benefits.
Set the After Grace Period drop-down menu to Move to Non-Members.
Warning: Selecting Keep Member in Roster as Expired Member will result in future issues for returning members. After the Grace Period ends, expired members will no longer have the ability to renew online; however, they will also be blocked from re-applying as they have an existing member account. Moving expired members to the Non-Member Manager will prevent this issue by allowing returning members to re-apply for membership.
