StarChapter will set your chapter up with a single administrator username and password when your site is in implementation. You will create individual logins for additional board members. Having a unique admin account for each administration offers the following advantages:
Increased security. Admin users can be restricted to only certain areas of the site, keeping board members with smaller areas of responsibility out of sections that don't pertain to them.
Password retrieval. Admin usernames can be set up with a single corresponding e-mail address to be used for password retrieval. This process doesn't work if multiple people use the same username.
Clear division of responsibilities. Sometimes one board member ends up doing everything. Setting login access for each board member makes it clear what their role clear.
Change logging. Certain changes are tracked within StarChapter based on the administrator's username. If multiple people use the same login, it's impossible to see who it was that made a change.
StarChapter Setup
When creating admin users (via General > Admin User Maintenance), give each administrator a unique username and password. Enter the administrator's e-mail address and set their privilege level appropriately.
A treasurer, webmaster, or high-level board position such as the president should have the Administrator privilege level. Positions with more limited areas of responsibility should be set as Restricted Users.
General Practices Outside Of StarChapter
While not directly pertaining to the StarChapter settings, there are a few general practices that should be followed.
Do not use the same login credentials for multiple services.
Do not use simple passwords. Incorporating uppercase letters, lowercase letters, symbols, and numbers make for a secure password.
