    Members Settings

Membership > Settings > Members includes settings to optimize member management and the Member Directory page display.

    General

Display company name in member picklist?

There are various places throughout StarChapter where a member list is available. Enable this setting if the company field should display with the member's first and last name.

Send welcome mail to pending members upon approval?

If local member applications are accepted and the application is set to hold all incoming members as Pending until approved by an admin, enable this setting to have a Welcome Email automatically sent upon approval. The "Default Member Welcome Email" setting dictates which Welcome Email template will be sent.

Send welcome mail to new, active members automatically each night?

Regardless of how membership is managed, at the local or National level, enable this option to ensure that all new members receive a Welcome Email when they are added to the Member Manager. This setting isn't necessary if new members are held in a Pending status upon application and "Send welcome mail to pending members upon arrival?" is enabled. The "Default Member Welcome Email" setting dictates which Welcome Email template will be sent.

    Default Member Welcome Email

Select the Welcome Email that should be sent to new members automatically. This email will only go out if "Send welcome email to pending members upon approval?" and/or "Send welcome mail to new, active members automatically each night?" are enabled.

    Member Expiry Settings

Member expiry settings control how expired members are managed within StarChapter. For organizations that receive member rosters from a parent organization, these should be disabled and set to "Do Nothing." For organizations that manage membership locally, this is a powerful tool to automate member access and removal based on expiration date.

    Login Options

The username options for member logins are dictated by these settings. Enable the options that should be available to members for use in the username field. Typically, all options are enabled. If no options are enabled, members will be unable to login.

    External Login

This option is only available to chapters of the Project Management Institute (PMI). This allows chapter's to link their StarChapter system to National and allow members to easily move back and forth between the local and National websites under the same login credentials. If you are a PMI chapter and would like to enable this option, submit a support ticket and StarChapter's Support Team will assist you.

    Custom Member Fields

All standard fields such as name, company, and contact information are part of StarChapter's default setup, but each organization and industry have information that is specific to them. Fields created within the Custom Member Fields area will display in all member profiles in Member Manager.

    Mass Update

The Mass Update tool can be used to update a field for all members, or a group of members, at the same time. This is often used to update expiration dates of corporate members.

    Member Directory

Group to display for first group view

Groups created in Membership > Group Manager can be enabled as "View By" options on the built-in Member Directory page. Select the preferred group from this drop-down list to turn on that function.

Group to display for second group view

If two "View By" options are desired, select the second group in this drop-down menu.

    Filter options for directory

Groups created in Membership > Group Manager can be enabled as filters on the built-in Member Directory page. Select the groups that should be filters by checking those groups.

Exclude uncategorized members from group views?

If the Group View options are enabled, this setting indicates whether uncategorized members will be listed as such in the Directory when the Group View is enabled. If this setting is unchecked, uncategorized members will be omitted in each Group View.

    Include pending members in directory?

Pending members can be found in the Member Manager of organizations that locally manage membership. New applicants are held in a Pending status either because the Member Application is configured to place all new applicants in this status until approved by a system admin or because the application was submitted without payment. This setting is typically not enabled as including unapproved and/or unpaid applicants in the Member Directory would be providing a member benefit.

    Exclude expired members from directory?

Depending on how membership is managed, including expired members in the Member Directory may make sense. If membership is managed by a parent organization and expiration dates are not shared with local chapters, all profiles in Member Manager will be listed as expired and this setting should be disabled to ensure that that member are included in the Member Directory. In most cases, inclusion in the Member Directory is a member benefit and enabling this setting to exclude expired members would make sense.

Default initial directory view to the alphabetic listing?

This setting is typically enabled and members are displayed in the Member Directory in alphabetical order based on their last name. If this setting is disabled, the Member Directory will display based on the group configured in "Group to display for first group view."

Exclude members that are members of a subgroup with the property Front-End Directory Listing unchecked within a group that has the property Member Directory Listing checked.

This setting supports the Member Directory Listing function within Membership > Group Manager.
